Day 12 - Stranded in Greybull - Day 1

This morning we woke to the stark rock towers around our campgrounds
just east of Yellowstone on Rt 14.

We stayed in a group camping area.

And yes, we are still in bear country, as evidenced by these
steel bear boxes and signs attached to the picnic tables.

Time for a quick breakfast so we can hit the road.
Our plans are to drive all the way to the Black Hills of South Dakota toda,y
so we can see Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse tomorrow.

Unfortunately, our plans were changed when the bus broke down in Shell WY, population 50.  The only business was the post office.  Tim and Barry spoke with the postmaster and were able to use the phone (no cell phone service) to make arrangement for getting the bus towed and for a school bus to transport the rest of us to Greybull WY, the nearest town with a garage.

We were dropped off at Green Oasis Campgrounds where we would stay while waiting
for a the bus was repaired.  Our hopes of a quick repair were short lived.

Below Eli and Urvish pondered our predicament.

And then they pondered some more....

The owners of the campground were wonderful and offered us the entire tent camping area for as long as we needed at no charge if we would be willing to do some chores around the campground....and that sounded like a good deal for us.

First chore was paint some fencing and picnic tables.

Then it was time to set up camp.

Little did we know at the time that we would get to know this campground
and the town of Greybull WY very, very well....
