Day 7 - Hike Day 3 - Base Camp

Today was a day at base camp filled with fishing, resting, goofing around, and fun.  Frankly, none of us felt like hiking over the mountain ridge to the higher lakes today.  Below are a few pictures of our base camp.

Here is the mountain west of our camp.

Here are a couple of views of the lake to the east of base camp.

Here is a near-360-degree view of our part of the Lakes Plateau.

When a pile of snow is in the middle of camp, the temptation is simply too great!

Time for fishing!  Everyone grab your poles!

Here is John fishing....

and Eli....

Here's Wyatt with his first trout!

Here's Casey....

and Aaron....

and Larry....

Even though the fish weren't biting, you just could pass up fishing on a lake like this.

Wyatt is busy preparing the trout he caught earlier.

Here are John, Lucas, Casey, Wyatt & Eli on what I called Table Rock.
It was a large flat-top boulder where many of the guys would eat their meals.

After a hard day of fishing (HA!) and a filling meal, Larry finds a place to nap.

Aaron takes in the experience.

As lunch time approaches, Urvish ponders getting down the bear bag.

Rule #1 - Keep food far away from camp!!!

Irvish & Eli waiting for lunch.

Tim & Urvish discussing the finer points of eating dehydrated meals.

While exploring I found a couple of interesting sites.  First these two trees that appear to be hugging.

And second, this babbling brook that is flowing into Rainbow Lake.

The evening hours brings another round of fishing.

Here's Aaron...

and Wyatt, who caught a second trout....

and Urvish....

and John....

I looks like Wyatt and Lucas are fighting for the same fishing hole!

Here is Wyatt's fishing holding tank for his second trout.
Unfortunately, the fish didn't make it until morning.

The evening sun made for an amazing mirror reflection of the mountains on the calm water.

Here is Larry's daily update for July 23rd, 2011.
